The Glamour Suit

From instyle.com
When I first considered this outfit I thought of it as too minimalist and simplistic, but looking at it I really appreciate the clean lines, and the all white look. The necklace is actually a wooden Hawaiian lei that my parents brought back for me; and the blazer is from TheModAppeal, a business attire line that I write for. Check out our Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/#!/TheModAppeal. I was inspired by the idea of a solid one color ensemble, like the Blake Lively Suit and Rosie Huntington Whiteley's Michael Kors jumpsuit below. Do an all white ensemble this summer, loose button downs, white bottoms and little white dresses will be all the rave.

The Office Bohemian

The office bohemian, now that sounds like a phrase that would describe me. My style usually tends to stray far away from "conservative," boring office style, plus the amount of times I wander off to the office kitchen or in my mind definitely makes me the roaming vagabond. This skirt was new, $29.99 from H&M. Although I think my style has a broad range, I don't usually gravitate towards bohemian. However, some of the great things about bohemian style is that usually bohemian pieces speak for themselves, they're bold, colorful, and very easygoing. Bohemian style can be a really great preference for people who want to look put together, but not try too hard. In the pics below you'll see  Vanessa Hudgens and Nicole Richie rockin some awesome bohemian looks. Be bold, colorful and one of a kind with your style. :)

License to Wed

From dvdactive.com
In this romantic comedy, Robin Williams hideously, annoying acting falls short again. License to Wed starts off very promising, and ends in the stereotypical, shtick comedy. The film actually starts off cutesy as a promising romantic comedy, although the main characters would've been more likable if they resembled a more realistic couple, like Peter and Zooey in "I Love You Man." The film takes a U turn shortly after the "pre-marital couseling" begins. Every single actor falls short for the next hour, and Robin Williams unfunny shenangians take over. By the time Mandy Moore is driving around blindfolded closer to the end, you realize you've gotten nowhere; but off course in the style of every comedy there is a thrown together happily ever after ending to tie up loose knots. This film is far from being a romantic comedy, since its premise really is to hinder every kind of possible romance; and is also far from being a comedy seeing that it makes nobody laugh.

Waitress

Wikipedia
Keri Russell gives a stellar performance as Jenna, a Southern waitress with sass who makes delectable pies. When she discovers she is pregnant by the husband she doesn't love anymore, life becomes forever unpredictable. Between long days working alongside her girlfriends in the diner, and dealing with her over agressive husband, life is never dull. However, she's treated by the new doctor in town, Dr. Pomatter, and they develop an intense relationship which leads to evermore discoveries. Through a roller coaster 9 months, Jenna not only changes her perspective, but finds the courage to lead her own life. The movie has a 1950s feel, probably because of its quaint, Southern drawl. Although it's a little too fast paced in the beginning, it's able to maintain the neutral balance of being a dramedy. Keri Russell has flawless delivery, and serves up her best piece yet.

Preppy Patty

So maybe you're a girl with classic taste, white button downs, and very neat, does that mean you're not fashionable? I  think not (see picture). I don't think there's anything wrong with dressing "preppy" or "classic," and there shouldn't be any negative connotations about that kind of style. Although I think my style is pretty diversified these days, I think I started off high school being a preppy dresser. I loved it.  I never understood why some girls thought you couldn't be young and preppy, like it was only for some sexy librarian or something. I get that preppy and classic may not be everyone's style, but if you're gravitating towards that go for it! Don't divert your style preferences just because you're young. A great way to wear white button downs is with black skinny pants, or more tapered pants or jeans. Let me tell you, an A line skirt or a pencil skirt can be a great style staple. You can pair them with simple white tees and black tanks. Also your button downs don't just have to be white, they can be striped or pastel colored with ruffles. A way to incorporate trend into your preppy look would be to spice it up with some awesome hipster glasses, --you've probably seen them everywhere--, cateye, geek chic whatev. So don't back down from your preppy style whether you're 35 or 17. Own your style. "A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous." - Coco Chanel

Bowgirl

My bowtie, words can't really describe what I love about it. Only now have I really begun to appreciate the androgynous elements included in the past couple years trends, especially fall collections. I really like that a girl can wear traditionally "masculine" clothing like a bowtie or a tuxedo jacket and is considered fashionable for doing so. So this is really a summery version of the same style; I included some pictures below of past runway collections including bowties/tuxedo jackets for women. The first photo below from left to right is Ralph Lauren Fall Collection 2011, Chanel Spring 1997, and Barrett Spring 2012. The row below on the left is Ralph Lauren Fall Collection 2012, and on the left Jason Wu 2011 Fall Collection. I also love Evan Rachel Wood's take (bottom right) in Dolce and Gabbana.

Blue Collared

Posh24.com
Surprise! The pictures are much improved. I finally got my new camera! It's a Canon Rebel T2i by the way. This look was inspired by the shirt Blake Lively is wearing. I've seen many celebs wear the same kind of simple, relaxed light blue shirt or a take on it; and since I'm always one for trendy combinations I paired them with my killer red pants. I know, I know, we've seen these pants time and time again. But seriously once you buy a pair of rainbow jeans, you'll be kissing them like they're you're good old blue ones. I'll put money on that one.

Picture Picture!

I finally got my new camera. I just wanted to show you guys, no more crappy photos on the blog thank goodness! Cheers! And stay tuned for some awesome, tasteful, excellente fashion editorials.

Off the Shores

I really appreciate the nautical elements in this outfit, the striped shirt and the navy Keds. I love when an outfit displays a theme, because then it displays a concept within fashion. Designers for example usually have themes for their collection underwater, nautical, minimalist you name it. The cream jacket is one of those classic pieces that add instant style and refinement. If you can purchase a structured, classic, or well made piece then do so. You will forever be able to use it as a staple to pair with simple, casual, or inexpensive clothes.

What I'm really in love with however is the shoes. They're Keds which always feel like a mix of a sneaker, converse, and a boat shoe. I like how the designer added a pattern to the wedge, since most wedges are usually plain or cork. I also have a thing for rounded toes --(I know I have a real shoe fetish)--, and the white threading really emphasizes that line. Something to consider is what you actually like about a shoe or a piece of clothing. Describe it and it will really help you appreciate the thought that was put into the design. As Katie Holmes once said when asked about her new clothing line is that once you begin to appreciate the elements and detailings of your wardrobe, you've really started approaching fashion on a whole different level. Agreed :)

Snow White & the Huntsman

From imdb.com

Snow White & the Huntsman stars Kristen Stewart as Snow White and gives a more accurate Grimm like retelling of the beloved classic with a darker more sinister twist. Snow White in this tale posseses a heart of gold with iron courage which is a more acceptable portrayal of a princess who is beautiful yet not a damsel in distress. Kristen Stewart does a decent job, although there are a few key moments where her limitations are exposed, such as the battle speech she gives before the raid. Queen Ravenna, played by Charlize Theron possesses an intense, menacing, bitter nature to the core; however her heated outbreaks are often a little too intense. It's important for the actors to note that it's not the volume or the decibel at which they speak at that portrays authenticity. The huntsman appointed to bring Ravenna the heart of Snow White is played by Chris Hemworth who does a decent job of channeling a heroic, masculine lead.

The script has some significant key moments such as notable symbolism and a couple of unexpected twists; but much of what it lacks is often made up for with creative and stunning digital techniques. It also manages to incorporate the poisoned apple and creatively reinvent the seven dwarfs. Although Snow White & the Huntsman trumps Mirror Mirror and many other fairy tale remakes, its limitations are often exposed. The script gave a more unique retelling, but it only shines next to the horrible remakes we've had in the past. Besides, beautiful digital techniques cannot make up for popular stars with acting limitations. Basically the Grimm brothers still would've done it better.

Love You Polka

If you don't know already I have a polka dot obsession. I'm sure we've discussed this, so you can see why I love this top. I bought it at Urban Planet at the Dixie Outlet Mall for $12.80. I just love the light, summery feel. The top doesn't have to sit asymetrically off the shoulder, but that's the way it naturally hangs on me. Although I love mixing and matching, occassionally I love pieces that can stand alone and are beautifully effortless.

Remember Me

The first scene of the movie justly sets the tone and brings authenticity to the characters. Tyler is a brooding young man who suffers in the wake of a family tragedy, while Ally has an overbearing father and a fierce sense of passion after witnessing a fatal event. Tyler and Ally's romance take place against the backdrop of their ever present fears, anxieties and circumstances. The context that each character brings colors their lives and the love that they have for each other; as Tyler struggles to recooperate and regain his familial bonds and Ally tries to face her fears and break her own ground. However it is a final catastrophic event that teaches them how to persevere and preserve after facing the fire.

Creme de la Creme: Simplicity

The look today is pretty simple. The shirt I'm wearing in this pic is actually kind of old. It was a hand-me down from my mom. She must've bought it in Suzy Sher ten years ago. It's actually kind of a small, cropped t-shirt, but I thought I could find a way to reinvent it. I wore it to work today with my grey jeggings and cream jacket. The best part about the jeggings is that like leggings they come above my bellybutton, although they're not high waisted. This is probably because of the stretch waistband, no zippers! The cream jacket is a classic of mine and probably one of my chicest, finest jackets. These are my awesome flats that were given to me as a gift. They're actualy something my mom recommended that I never would've thought of picking up in the store, (partially because I was too cheap to buy them). I actually love them now. They're patent leather, which I've adored from day one. Probably since I was two I have admired every patent leather shoe I have. I can't help staring at my feet admiring the shinyness like I did at work today. I'll admit I have a fetish.

Cool Operator

I really adore the chic, crisp look of this outfit. Many people have thought of pairing navy with red, but I think this slate blue is a different take on the look. It's really the chic ribbon cinching belt and the wide lapels that make the jacket so fashionable; and making the 3/4 sleeve looser was a really great design detail. I know you can't see it in the picture, but the necklace actually has pearls entwined in the gold chain. It's a modern take on where a put together Mad Men era secretary would wear a string of pearls to the office, hence I call it cool operator.

Sally Secretary

Finally another outfit post! I apologize in advance for the lack of outfit posts. I've been working, and it's also been a rainy, dismal summer in Canada. I love rocking my rainbow jeans.  I have them in two colors, red and purple. This top is another clothes favorite. It adds the right amount of volume, and the frills add a pretty femininity that is just right. The jacket is very structured and tops off the office look; and I always love the concept of pairing something dressy or structured with something casual and trendy, plus it's a great way to dress for work.

The Wedding Planner

Imdb.com

Mary Fiore (played by Jennifer Lopez) is a superhero wedding planner doing everything from writing the best man's speech to wiping the tears of the father of the bride. By complete chance she is one day rescued by handsome Dr. Steve (played by Matthew McConaughey). After the perfect "dream date" in the park they begin to fall in love; but there's one problem Dr. Steve is the groom for the wedding she's planning. Although this is a romantic comedy it oozes more cheese than a Harlequin. The few pathetic attempts at comedy would be better off if they were left out completely. The script is completely amateur relying on cliches and lacks any sign of creative thought. Jennifer Lopez's performance is okay, although she is quite limited by the pathetic script. However the expectations for Matthew McConaughey were a bit higher and he disappointed us in more ways than one.

You, Me And Dupree

Imdb.com

You, Me and Dupree introduces us to good looking newlyweds Molly and Carl (played by Kate Hudson and Matt Dillon). Dupree is Carl's best man and best friend. When he runs into a little "cash flow" problem Molly and Carl decide to let him stay at their place. To summarize briefly Dupree is a houseguest nightmare with exagerrated behaviors. The film is a little predictable with an austere script. As a comedy it falls flat on its face. The jokes could be better, and it tries too hard to be something that it's not. The characters have unrealistic reactions to their circumstances, and the script tries too hard to gloss over any potentially interesting ideas. Michael Douglas' acting was good and dependable as always, but the real bait for this movie is probably just Kate Hudson's sunny California girl body.
