Synopsis
A writer who lives a glamourous life in New York City is marrying her longtime boyfriend, but her three best friends must bind together after an unexpected disappointment.
Review
The movie opens with an aerial span of New York City and girly, pink "Manhattan" letters. The aerial span seems nice and I do love New York City, but I can't tell you how typical that is. How many movies open with a view of New York's skyline? Dozens. Carrie Bradshaw opens with a monologue about the "New York life," and the new status and situations that Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda find themselves in. As Carrie says it typical girls that come to New York and look for the two L's, labels and love. That's basically what this movie seems to be labels and love. I find it quite shallow actually. (I do love the Vivenne Westwood dress and the bridal au couture.) Carrie's glamourous life is fun to watch, but the first really exciting thing happens 45 minutes into the movie, besides Carrie's getting married which we already knew was going to happen. I think the trailer gives away what we all know is going to happen, but I'll refrain from telling anyway. The 1st hour of the movie seems quite shallow, but the second half is better. You begin to see the writer in Carrie, because her voice overs give the movie a "journal" feel as if you were reading one. The events of the best friends are linked in a loving and comfortable way, similar to the tone of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. We see Carrie Bradshaw as being the truly lovable one. We relate to her, her voice, and her sense of calm. This movie does end up being about love, love between partners, love between friends, love for yourself.
