The adventures of a fighter pilot are highlighted when he attends US Navy Flying School.
Review
Those who have an appreciation for Tom Cruise will enjoy this movie. The movie opens with words on the screen about the history of the flying school. The credits appear with planes taking off in the backdrop. A very simple opening, but we do have to take into account that this is 1986. Tom Cruise plays Maverick. The movie begins with him up in the air of course fighting off missiles with his colleauges. His boss gives him and his colleauge Goose the oppurtunity to attend the prominent Top Gun school.
Soon after they arrive there Maverick eyes a pretty blonde, Charlie (played by Kelly McGillis) at a party. He attempts to make a move, but is shunned for his efforts until the next day when he discovers the woman he had been wooing is his teacher and instructor at Top Gun. Determined to be a good pilot and to win the girl Maverick often takes liberties at the cost of his position and reputation, particularly with a rival named IceMman. Maverick's unique and dangerous flying skills also becomes the centre of attention as well as poses some problems. The best scene in the movie is the air battle scene close to the end. The movie ultimately ends with the sense of comradery and victory that this action flick began with.
