Review

The movie starts immediately displaying a black and white film on a movie screen. A little boy is watching excitedly. As he's walking home, little Carl makes a discovery that changes his life. He discovers an apparently abandoned house and hears a voice chattering away inside. He makes the acquaintance of a fellow explorer, a tomboy named Ellie. They become lifelong companions in every way. There's a beautiful silent montage that captures the Carl, Ellie, their lives together and their undying love for each other.

Meanwhile developers are building around Mr. Fredrickson's home, and buyers hope to snatch the last thing he has left of Ellie, their home. So Mr. Fredrickson comes up with a brillant plan to finally set off to Paradise Island, so with the help of 1000 ballons and a wilderness explorer named Russell.

Although Mr. Fredrickson wants to fulfill his lifelong dream of getting to Paradise Falls there are challenges along the way, especially when a talking dog and a colorful "snipe" make for incompetent traveling companions. Who knew South America had dogs with special talking collars, but are temporarily distracted by squirrels? And when Mr. Fredrickson confronts a famous explorer looking for a rare specimen things get messy.

This beautifully animated movie has many tender moments. You'll fall in love with the characters and become intrigued by the amazing chase of a true adventure story. The kind of movie that can bring you up! when your down. :)
